In 1984, friends and creative partners, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laid self-published their comic book featuring a team of four teenage turtles who were masters of ninjitsu. The idea was a hybrid of stories and styles from Marvel’s Daredevil and Frank Miller’s Ronin. The turtles would go on to take the world by storm partly in thanks to the merchandising of the license. In January 1987, Eastman and Laird visited the offices of Playmates Toys, a small California toy company that wanted to expand into the action-figure market. History was made. Today, we have a part of the Rock n Rollin Turtles series with Rappin’ Mike; one of the more interesting figures we’ve featured. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Playmates had a legendary run with figures that are still highly collectible to this day.
